02
Optimised vessel bottom for minimum mixing volume — residual volume below 1.5 litres instead of 10 % of vessel volume.
03·LBS
What stays in the vessel is lost product — and has to be disposed of on top.
10 % of vessel volume
At 250 L, 22.5 L remain; at 1000 L it is 90 L.
1.5 litres
A single
1.5 litres
Main agitator plus a BMA in the LBS for the minimum volume.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT
Tulip bottom for comparison: around 12 litres. Payback for the LBS is 3 to 16 months depending on the application — plus savings on disposal of discarded product.
04·In detail
In sterile processing the greatest threat to the batch comes from outside. A mechanical seal is a moving barrier: it wears, it needs barrier fluid, and it remains a managed risk. The BMA removes that risk by replacing the shaft entry with a hermetic magnetic coupling — a closed system that is physically incapable of leaking. Scalable from a 2-litre pilot vessel to a 150,000-litre tank.

Fermentation is more than mixing: it is precise control of the micro-environment. Whether an aerobic process with high gas dispersion or a strictly anaerobic cultivation demanding complete homogeneity — the BMAF is the bottom magnetic agitator on which process stability in the fermenter rests. The series spans pilot scale to industrial production, and every project starts with pre-engineering.

Not every mixing task belongs in a vessel. In continuous processes, dosing loops or rapid heating, mixing has to take place directly in the pipe. Two designs cover this: the static mixer SM, which uses the flow energy of the medium, and the dynamic tubular mixer, which uses a motor to introduce mixing energy independently of the flow rate.

The lean bottom system (LBS) combines agitator, bottom outlet valve and up to two sensor ports in one prefabricated block that is set into the vessel bottom as a single unit. The deep-set impeller keeps the product in motion until the vessel is drained; the valve block has no dead legs and drains completely.

For most sterile mixing duties the bottom magnetic agitator is the first choice. Yet not every vessel allows bottom entry. When vessel geometry, bottom piping or process chemistry rule it out, we mount the TMA on the top flange — with the same hermetic magnetic coupling. It is not an alternative to the BMA, but the tool for the cases where the bottom is not an option.

Mounted from the top, supported at the bottom: the TMAw transmits torque hermetically through a magnetic coupling at the lower end of a stationary tube. The bearing is the same as on the BMA and is lubricated by the medium.
